L'immobilizzazione è importante dato che il paziente potrebbe muoversi inavvertitamente oppure spostarsi a causa della velocità di una autoambulanza o di mosse inappropriate degli operatori che potrebbero causarne la caduta dal supporto su cui è disposto e/o aggravarne la condizione. Una particolare menzione merita l'immobilizzazione della zona del bacino e delle articolazioni coxofemorali per le quali si ricorre a sistemi noti quali ad esempio cinghi e del tipo ragno. Tali sistemi noti però non sono soddisfacenti perché risultano poco confortevoli per il paziente (ad esempio se le cinghie sono allacciate e strette in maniera eccessiva) o non riescono ad assicurare lo stesso al supporto in maniera adeguata (ad esempio se le cinghie sono allacciate in maniera lasca).
