Abstract

The materials treated with lime are treated with strong cationic polyelectrolyte and then centrifuged for solid/liquid separation at pH 12, thus yielding sterile fertiliser (which when bagged does not ferment but can reduce pH when spread on fields); the one liquid phase which separates off is treated with acid flocculating agent (ferric chloride, aluminium sulphate or others) to lower the pH; the combined action of the flocculating agent and an anionic polyelectrolyte which counter the strong cationic polyelectrolyte added in the first part give rise to vigorous flocculation and therefore a greater knock-down of solutes and colloidal suspensions. <IMAGE>
