Abstract

A propulsion unit has been developed for low-floor vehicles for carrying passengers and freight, running on rails 15, comprising a body 2, a bogie 1 having axles 5, 6 provided with wheels 4 and a chassis 3, and driving means 22, 21 for the aforesaid wheels 4, which in turn comprise at least two traction motors 22, each connected for operation, by means of at least one corresponding transmission unit 21, to a corresponding axle 5, 6 of the wheels 4; the aforesaid traction motors 22 are supported under the aforesaid body 22 on opposite sides of a longitudinal axis of symmetry 60, in such a way as to enable the floor 14 of the aforesaid body 2 to be positioned at a predetermined minimum level with respect to the aforesaid rail 15. <IMAGE>
