Abstract

Process for effecting the sulphur-free vulcanization of an elastomer, comprising epoxidizing an elastomer, for example natural rubber (NR) to a predetermined degree, preparing a mixture including the epoxidized elastomer, possible other elastomers and a predetermined quantity of at least one compound of formula R1-R-R2 where R is arylene, alkylene or alkenylene, substituted or unsubstituted, or a mixture of the same and where R1 and R2 are independently a carboxyl group, an amine group or a sulphonic or chlorosulphonic group, and then treating the mixture thus prepared, with heating and under pressure.
