Abstract

The mono-pulse radar receiver in the aircraft can detect a radar-reflective object on the ground and determine whether it is stationary, or detect its course if not stationary. The Doppler frequency, Fd, of the received echo is defined by the equation: Fd = 2V/lambda. cos. alpha, where V is the aircraft velocity, lambda is the wavelength'of the transmitted signal and alpha is the angle between the aircraft course and that of the target on the ground. The sum and difference outputs of the receiver are demodulated and fed to a range selection device a-d converter. The output of the converter is fed to a frequency analyser which uses Fast Fourier Transform techniques. The analyser outputs are fed via a Doppler effect goniometer, ground-following circuit, echo availability detector and alpha detector to the output circuit.
