Abstract

The bale feed mechanism comprises a driven feed bar(42) carrying tines(43). The drive comprises a stationary gear(27) and a movable gear(36). The feed bar(42) is coupled to the movable gear(36) at a location offset from the centre. The gear(36) is moved about the centre of the stationary gear(27) by a crank(31) mounted on a driven shaft(29). The crank supports a further gear(35) which meshes with the gears(27, 36) and acts as a reversing gear between them. The arrangement is such that the pin(41) which connects the bar(42) to a crank(40) moves along an elliptical path.
