Abstract
In the prepn. of a urea-HCHO resin foam, an aq. soln. of urea-HCHO resin, having concn. over 65% and viscosity up to 2500 mPa.sec. at 20 deg.C, is dispersed with an inert compressed gas under a pressure of 200000-1000000 Pa. The dispersed resin is then introduced into the stream of an elastic and stable foam of the blowing agent and hardener, preliminarily foamed with inert compressed gas, present as an aq. soln. contg. pref. 0.5-1.5% surfactant and also an acid catalyst. Wt. ratio dispersed resin:aq. blowing agent and hardened soln. is 1:0.5 to 1:2.5. The surfactants are salts of sulphonated alcohols having formula MOSO3R|(where|M|is|Na,|K,|NH4,|(CH2CH2OH)3NH;|and|R|is|an|8-20C fatty alcohol residue) or triethanolamine salts of alkylbenzene sulphonic acids. The resin foam is used as heat-insulator for wood panel construction, e.g. in agriculture, and can be cast into supporting plates of metal. Liq. 'drainage' from the freshyl prepd. foam is prevented; shrinkage on casting is reduced, e.g. to less than 1.5%, free HCHO generation on hardening and drying can be reduced to 0.5%; foam adhesion to building materials is increased and foam quality is improved.
