Abstract
At least outer surface of an extruded plastics pipe (I) is subjected to thermal oxidation so that, in at least outermost layer, polymer chains are broken to increase surface roughness, then (I) is cooled, layer of paint-like substance (II) is applied to treated surface and distributed uniformly over circumference of (I), then (II) layer is hardened and/or dried. Pref. (I) is of polypropylene. (II) is PVDC. Layer of (II) is about 50 microns thick. (I) is treated with gas flame, partic. of propane, partic. to above 70 deg.C. After being heated, (I) is cooled, partic. to about 40 deg.C. After application of (II), (I) is predried at 75-80 deg.C. (II) is applied by spray nozzles distributed around (I) circumference. (I) is passed at about 4m./minute through work stations of process. Second layer of a (II) is applied after drying. (II) layer is up to 50 microns thick, or first (II) layer is max. 10 microns and second (II) layer is max. 100 microns thick.
