Abstract
Compsns. consist of (A) at least one Gp. I or IIA or B metal or ammonium salt of an organic carboxylic acid of formula (I) in which A1 and A2 are benzene or aromatic polycondensed heterocyclic aromatic radical, a cycloaliphatic radical or an aliphatic radical; B1 and B2 are gps. substituting part of the H atoms of A1, or A2 and may be halogen, nitrile, nitro, sulpho, imido, ether, ester, ketone, halide acid, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or heterocyclic radical; m and n are 0-5 with the proviso that at least one of m and n is other than 0 so that at least 1 COOH gp. is present; s1 and s2 are 0-5 with the proviso that at least one of s1 and s2 is other than 0 so that at least one A1 or A2 is present; z1 and z2 are 0-6; i is 0 or 1 such that X is absent if i is 0, and (B) at least 1 component chosen from (I) a halogenated organic ether derived from the etherification of alcohols or phenols, mono- and/or polyfunctional, partially or completely halogenated; (ii) a halogenated or non-halogenated imide; (III) a halogenated or non-halogenated sulphone and (IV) and inorganic cpd. Compsns. have good self extinguishing properties without detriment to thermal stability during processing or use or to the physical properties of the polycarbonate.
