Abstract
A sizing compsn. for glass fibres comprises (a) thermoplastic aliphatic, elastomeric curable polyurethane(s), pref. emulsified and in the form of a dispersion, (b) functional silane(s) and (c) aminofunctional silane(s). Glass fibre lubricants (d) may alos be present. Pref. polyurethane dispersion is present in amt. of 75-95 wt.% (based on the aq. sizing soln), (b) in amt. of 0.05- 2.0 wt.%, (c) in amt. of 0.05-2.0 wt. and (d) in amt. of 0.05-5 wt.%. A moulded reinforced polymer is also claimed comprising the sized glass fibres and polymer chosen from polyamides, polyethylene- or polybutylene terephthalate, polystyrnes and chemically coupled polypropylenes. The sized fibres and polymer compsn. have improved UV stability and reduced tendency to discolour while maintaining other properties.
