Abstract

New vinyl compsns. are of formula (I): H2C-(ClH)-CH-A-(CH2)w-(NH)x-CO-NH-(CH2)y-S(O)z-CH=CH2 (I) (where A is -CO- or -SO2-, v = 0 or 1, w = 0 or integer 1-6, x = 0 or 1, y = 2-6, and z = 1 or 2, provided that >=1 of w and x is a positive integer). Pref. cpds. (I) are those with A = -CO-, w = 0, and x = 1, or A = -SO2, w = 2 or 3, and x = 0. Specifically claimed cpds. have the formula Cl-CH2-CH2-CO-NH-CO-NH-(CH2)y-SO2-CH=CH2 in which w and y = 2 or 3. The cpds. (I) are esp. useful as cross linking agents for hydrophilic colloids contg. amino, imino and/or OH gps. an esp. for polyvinyl alcohol, gelatine or gelatine derivs. The (I) are esp. useful as hardening agents for photographic gelatine emulsions.
