Abstract

The composite aerodynamically shaped rotor blade manufacturing process has one final stage for assembly and bonding together of a curved panel (16), a leading edge profile strip (18) and main spar (12) which it encloses, and a built-up trailing edge portion (14). A spar rear end doubler (24) is partially sandwiched between casing panel and main spar. Prior to this, the trailing edge portion is produced by fitting pre-formed skin panels (28, 30) and the C-shaped doubler to a cellular structure core element (26), also pre-shaped. The skin panels overlap the doubler, these parts then being bonded, using heat and pressure. The process is carried out using parts of the mould used for the final stage.
