Abstract

1416411 Drying and mixing apparatus K E MCCONNAUGHAY 3 Dec 1973 [12 Jan 1973] 55846/73 Heading B1C [Also in Division F4] In a drier-mixing apparatus a drum 10 having at its ends an inlet 27 and an outlet 30 is rotatably mounted on a frame 12 and driven by motor 16 e.g. through chain 18, Fig. 3, and sprocket 20. A plurality of vanes 45, 46, 47 are mounted in the drum for mixing materials passing through the drum and air ducts 54, 55 are connected to the upper part of the ends of the drum and lead to exhaust means for withdrawing air and dust particles and which may include an exhaust pipe 77, dust traps 59, pipes 70 and extraction fan 78. A burner 48, 49 is provided at each end of the drum and directs flames towards the centre of the drum which according to an alternative embodiment Fig. 7 may have a central partition 80 having a series of apertures 82 the overlapping vanes 46, Fig. 3, not being required. When used in roadsurfacing material preparation, binding material and water for the aggregate entering through chute 27 may be introduced into the drum from tanks 36, 40 via pipes 35, 39.
