Abstract
1314460 Explosive compositions ICI AUSTRALIA Ltd 3 Dec 1971 [16 Dec 1970] 56206/71 Heading C1D [Also in Division C3] A slurry or plastic explosive composition comprises an inorganic nitrate, chlorate, or perchlorate, water, a fuel, and, as a sensitizing agent, water-insoluble particles encapsulating gas in the interior of each particle and comprising additional fuel material which may be present in the hollow interior of the particles, incorporated with the material forming the particles, or on the exterior of the particles. Some oxygen-releasing salt may also be included in the sensitizing agent. Polymeric materials for the sensitizing agent, oxygenreleasing salts, fuel, and other ingredients may be as described in Specification 1,314,285. Examples describe the following sensitizing agents: vesiculated polystyrene granules containing Al or Si powder in the vesicles, in the polymer, and/or on the outer surface of the granules, vesiculated methacrylate polymer containing sugar in the vesicles, retiporous melamine-formaldehyde resin particles or hollow glass spheres with Al on the outer surface, vesiculated polyester-styrene copolymer containing Al and ammonium nitrate in the vesicles, ground porous polyurethane containing Al, vesiculated polyester-styrene or polyvinylidene microspheres coated with Al, and glass balloons coated with Al or Si. Specification 1,156,596 is referred to.
