Abstract

1321081 Rotary brushes; carpet sweepers PRESTIGE GROUP Ltd 5 Jan 1971 [21 Jan 1970] 3057/70 Headings A4F and A4K A carpet sweeper has a rotary brush comprising outwardly extending sweeper elements arranged in rows extending along the brush, the sweeper elements being of different flex characteristics and arranged so that each soft element in any row precedes a stiffer element in the following row in the direction of rotation so that the soft element receives dirt swept forward by the stiffer element. Each row may comprise tufts of the same flex characteristics, the soft tufts 24, Fig. 2 being larger and thinner than the stiff tufts 23; and/or the soft tufts may comprise synthetic fibres or horse hair and the stiff tufts bristle; and/or the soft tufts may have less bristles or fibres. Two or more rows of stiff tufts may be provided between each row of soft tufts. In another form, Fig. 3, each row comprises a length of soft tufts 34 spaced between lengths of stiff tufts 33, and the rows are helical. Alternatively, the sweeper elements may comprise felt.
