Abstract

1,268,131. Cutting blanks. CHAMBON Ltd. 26 March, 1970 [28 March, 1969], No. 14775/70. Heading B4B. [Also in Division B3] A method of producing blanks 16 intended for use in the manufacture of frusto-conical containers, each blank having the shape of an annular sector corresponding to the development of a frusto-conical surface, comprises feeding strip stock 1 continuously, forming in the strip in one operation a first transverse arcuate cut line 7 corresponding to the minor base of the frusto-conical surface, and two radial cut lines 8, 9 corresponding to the edges of the blank, while leaving two uncut portions 11, 12 between the cut lines, and then forming a second transverse arcuate cut line 15 which corresponds to the major base of the frusto-conical surface and is so positioned as to cut through the portions 11, 12 of a preceding blank to sever it from the strip. In apparatus described for performing the method, strip stock 1, e.g. of thick paper, cardboard, metal sheet, or plastics, is fed continuously to rotary trimming cutters which remove margins 3, 4. The trimmed stock is then fed between a first pair of rotary cutting rollers, one of which has blades which produce the cut lines 7, 8, 9, and subsequently between a second pair of rotary cutting rollers, one of which has a blade which produces the cut line 15, and the other of which has studs 24, which remove the scrap portions 21, 22, 23. The scrap portions are stripped from the studs by a comb-shaped plate. The cut blanks 16 are fed by rollers 17 to a clamp-type device 18 which stacks them substantially vertically on an inclined plane 19. [GB1268131A]
