Abstract
Cyclopropane derivatives Compounds of formula: or -CH2.C=C.CH2.C=CH where R' is alkyl and R2 R3 = H or alkyl, or R' = H and R2, R3 = alkyl, R4, R5, R6 = H, alkyl. Insecticides active against a wide variety of insects, esp. against the house-fly, particularly effective when synergised e.g. with piperonyl butoxide. LD50 orally in mice of (I) (R = 5-methyl-5-hexen-2-vinyl vinyl (i), 6-methyl-5-hepten-2-ynyl (ii) or 2.5-hexadiynyl (iii) is >1600 mg/kg. Activity against housefly is comparable so that of DDT and pyrethrum extract. Ester (i) is active against apple fly, ester (iii) is active against apple, potato and bean fly, and red spider.
