Abstract

1,246,489. Coated antibiotics. BRISTOLMYERS CO. 5 Sept., 1968 [5 Sept., 1967; 2 Nov., 1967 (2)], No. 42214/68. Heading A5B. Particles of ampicillin, hetacillin, nafcillin, oxacillin, cloxacillin, dicloxacillin, flucloxacillin and mixtures thereof are coated with ethyl cellulose and a wax, the product having a particle size not greater than 40 mesh (U.S.S.S.). They may be prepared by suspending the antibiotic particles in a solution of the coating materials in a volatile solvent and spray-drying. The coated particles may be incorporated into solid and liquid pharmaceutical forms. A preferred embodiment is an aqueous suspension also comprising kaolin or colloidal magnesium aluminium silicate.
