Abstract

Treating tobacco comprises: (1) subjecting the tobacco to reduced pressure of at most7 kPa in a chamber; (2) impregnating the cell structure of the tobacco with isopentane vapour at 70-90deg.C and maintaining contact of the tobacco with the vapour at a pressure of 400 kPa for at most30 mins. to impregnate the tobacco; (3) removing isopentane vapour by evacuating the chamber with adiabatic pressure change; (4) contacting the tobacco with steam to expand the tobacco and (5) subjecting the expanded tobacco to reordering.
