Abstract

Roadbeds having depth-graded resilience for the construction of surfaced main roads and of minor and link-roads are prepd. from silica based aggregate - as sand, sandy gravel or slurry based cinders, pre-mixed or mixed on site with binders of cement, and/or hydraulic fly-ash and/or hydrate of lime. Resilience is controlled by adding varying amounts of a bituminous emulsion to different layers of the roadmix. - To the basic mix of 75-85 wt.% aggregate, 5-20 wt.% of non-hydraulic fly ash as pozzuolanic component, 0-12 wt.% hydraulic fly-ash and/or 0-5 cement as well as 0-5 wt.% hydrated lime, 3-5 wt.% (based on basic mix) of bituminous emulsion is added, in order to lay the first layer. This addn. takes place with the eeth of the mechanical digger originally set to full depth when the upper layer is placed in position the teeth of the mechanical digger are raised to its height and further 2-3 wt.% of bituminous emulsion is added. - These layers are compacted in one step. Thus it is possible to prepare and use the same uniform dry aggregate throughout and to mix and compact the entire road bed of variable resilience in one operation
