Abstract
A novel soft magnetic nickel-iron alloy has an initial magnetic permeability of greater than 280 000 and a maximum magnetic permeability of greater than 4 000 000, obtained by deoxidising the melt with aluminium and/or silicon and restricting the Mg content to less than 15 wt. ppm., the Ca content to less than 8 wt. ppm and the sum of Mg + Ca to less than 20 wt. ppm.
