Abstract
A method for synthesis of zeolite Y from igneous glassy rocks and silicic covers is proposed. The method comprises the separation of amorphous silicon dioxide from the rocks and the preparation of a gel by addition of sodium aluminate. After curing of the gel and subsequent heating for 3-120 hours, the final products, rich in zeolite Y at a proportion higher that 95 percentage, are obtained. Zeolite Y is used primarily in hydrocarbon catalysis due to its high micro-porosity, and secondarily in environmental applications.
