Abstract

The invention relates to a method for chemical deposition of composite coatings of conductive polymers from aqueous solutions onto aluminium alloy surfaces aiming at their protection from corrosion.The conductive polymers may be deposited onto an aluminium surface with simple immersion into an aqueous solution of their monomers. The principle of the method is based to the presence in parallel into the said solution of fluorometallic acids (fluorozirconic, fluorotitanium and/or fluorosilic acid) partially neutralised with a basic metal oxide (zinc or manganese oxide).The result is the development of a mixed coat consisting of zirconium oxides, titanium oxides and/or silicic oxides, the conductive polymer as well as metallic zinc and/or manganese. The colour of the coating is black with violet and blue iridescence. By controlling composition conditions, the thickness of the coating may even reach 10 micrometers. The invention apart from being an innovative method for coating aluminium surfaces with conductive polymers, is characterised by the easiness of its application as well as the use of non-toxic chemicals (in the case where the monomers also are non-toxic as for example pyrol and theiophene). Apart from anticorrosive protection, the coating can combine other properties, characheristic of conductive polymers, such as absorption of electromagnetic radiation, electric diode properties, chemical compound sensor properties, etc. For this reason, applications of the invention may extend to a wide technological range.
