Abstract
A lock for sliding doors and windows is described, featuring a vertical pin rigidly attached to the facing part and a tongue moves at right angles to the pin, the tongue being fitted with a ring with a diameter equal to the diameter of the pin of the facing part. The tongue is adjusted to the left or to the right of a transverse thread running from end to the end of a carrier connected to the carrier of the lock, thus being suitable for use with leaves sliding either to the left or to the right. According to one application of the invention, the transverse thread in the carrier of the tongue can assume different positions, adjusted so that the same lock can be adapted for use with different types of profiles for door and window frames. The lock features a handle, which can be either rigidly built-into the lock, or interchangeable from a variety of commercially available handles, or removable for security reasons. The turn of the handle is converted inside the lock into a reciprocating movement with the use of an arrangement consisting of a cogged wheel and a cogged ruler.
