998,619. Knitting-machines. WOLSEY Ltd. June 30,1964 [April 26, 1963], No. 16475/63. Heading D1C. A circular machine having stop motion mechanism adjacent the needle cylinder has a detector adapted to engage the latch of any needle which is sluggish in operation and thereby complete an electrical circuit which includes an electrode 8 mounted adjacent a metal drum 3 also included in the circuit and which carries a paper band 5. Completion of the circuit causes a spark to be produced between the drum and electrode thereby puncturing the paper. The drum is rotated in synchronism with the needle cylinder so that the position of perforation in the paper caused by the spark indicates the position of the needle in the cylinder whereby the needle is readily identified and can be replaced.
