Abstract
The invention comprises compositions containing one or more ethanolamines and an alkali metal borohydride in sufficient quantity to prevent substantial discoloration of the ethanolamine(s) in the presence of ferrous metal. Said compositions are obtained by adding the alkali metal borohydride, which may be in the form of dry pellets, a dry powder, or, preferably, an aqueous or aqueous alkaline solution, to the ethanolamine(s), preferably at 30 DEG to 70 DEG C., whilst agitating the system. When the ethanolamine(s) are to be stored in ferrous metal containers the borohydride may be added to the ethanolamine(s) before or after said ethanolamines are introduced into said containers. Specified amounts of borohydride employed are 0.001 to 0.05% by weight of the ethanolamine.
