Abstract
998,333. Loading containers on to ships. U. MUSSO. April 19, 1962 [April 24, 1961(2)], No. 15238/62. Heading B8E. [Also in Division B7] A ship's hold is divided into spaces 12, 13, 14, which receive cargo containers 16 on rails 15. The containers 16 are loaded from a wharf via a gangway 3 and lowered into the hold by a lift 11. A trolley 7 drawn by a rope 8 is available for pulling the containers on to the ship from the wharf and traction equipment 18 and ropes 17 pull the containers from the lift 11 into the spaces 12, 13 or 14. Unloading of the containers is achieved by gravity, the ship being inclined by ballasting for this purpose.
