Abstract

998, 234. Optical systems. FUJI SHASHIN KOKI KABUSHIKI KAISHA, and NIPPON TELEVI HOSOMO KABUSHIKI KAISHA. Aug. 28, 1963, No. 34114/63. Heading G2J. [Also in Division H4] In a colour television camera image light is directed via an appropriate object lens 1 and field lens 2, both mounted in a rotatable turret, front part 3, 4 of a relay lens arrangement, fixed diaphragm 5, dichroic mirrors 6, 7 and rear part 8, 9 of the relay lens arrangement on to image orthicons 10, the focusing being done by forward and rearward displacement of front part 2, 3, 4 of the relay lens arrangement so as to make the image formed by the object lens 1 coincide with the front principal plane of the field lens 2. The rear principal plane of field lens 2 coincides with the front focal plane of the part 3, 4 of the relay lens arrangement so that light rays leave the part 3, 4 and pass through the dichroic mirrors 6 and 7 as parallel rays thus preventing change of reflection characteristics caused by change of incident angle, astigmation caused by the inclined dispositions of the mirrors, change of optical path length caused by the tolerance errors in the thickness of the mirrors and ghost images. The images on the photo-cathodes of the three orthicons are of identical shape and size as that at the image plane of the object lens since the front part 3, 4 and rear part 8, 9 are of equal focal length. The increase in the Petzval sum caused by field lens 2 is counteracted by negative lens 9, thus for the relay lens as a whole the Petzval sum is almost zero which results in substantially complete correction of field curvature and astigmatism. The abberrations caused by front part 3, 4 and rear part 8, 9 counteract each other and the distortion caused by negative lens 9 is cancelled. The front part of the relay lens consists of a positive lens group (2 lenses) and a negative lens group (3 lenses) forming together a telephoto type lens. To adjust the camera the field lens turret has a mount for holding a test chart 11 and a lamp 12 which illuminates the rear face of the chart since the mount has no corresponding object lens. Optical data are provided for one example, Fig. 3, not shown.
