Abstract
998,098. Winding threads. W. REINERS. April 6, 1962 [July 15, 1961], No. 13269/62. Heading D1J. In a thread winding machine having a grooved drum 1 traversing the thread on to a take-up spool 7 the reversal points of the groove 4 are covered by plates 10, 10a that co-operate to form a guide channel preventing the thread F from being thrown sideways off the grooved drum should the thread break at the reversal points. The additional grooves 5, 6 extend around only a part of the drum periphery following the reversal points and are intended to receive the substantially tensionless end portion of a trailing thread from the bobbin 7, should the thread break or become exhausted, and so prevent the thread end from running over an end of the bobbin and possibly becoming wound on the bobbin spindle. The plates 10, 10a carry pins 15 forming a zig-zag path, as shown, the purpose of the path being to delay engagement of a re-tied thread with the groove 4 over the full length of the traverse drum 1 until the thread has become tank. In Fig. 2 the plates 10, 10a can pivot independently about a rod 11. In a modified construction Fig. 4 (not shown) the plates are integral at their lower ends so that they pivot as one about the rod 11.
