996, 315. Photo mechanical printing plates. KALLE A.G. Sept. 16, 1963 [Sept. 22, 1962], No. 36418/63. Headings G2C, G2H and G2M. [Also in Division H1] A method of making a printing plate comprises electrostatically charging a layer coated on a support and containing a photo-conductor and a naphthoquinone-1, 2-diazide-sulphonic acid ester, imagewise exposing the layer and developing the image with a powder toner, exposing the layer to light to decompose the diazo compound where it is unprotected by the powder image, and removing the decomposed diazo compound. The support may be a metal which may be etched after removing the diazo compound and, after etching, the image may be removed by solvent. The photoconductor may be an oxodiazole and may contain zinc oxide or cadmium sulphide when the support is not to be etched. The diazo compound may be 2, 3, 4- trihydroxy-benzo-phenone-naphoquinone-(1, 2)- diazide-(2)-(5)-sulphonic acid ester.
