995,243. Injection moulding machines. C.I.C. ENGINEERING Ltd. March 30, 1962 [March 30, 1961; Sept. 11, 1961], Nos. 11686/61 and 10996/62. Divided out of 32485/61. Heading B5A. An injection nozzle assembly comprises a nozzle 5 which is longitudinally displaceable by to a charging position in direct contact with a mould, without relative movement between the injection cylinder and the mould. In one embodiment (Fig. 2) the nozzle 5 is slidably mounted in a sleeve 6 which is slidable within a nozzle body 8. Passages 13, 18, 12 in the parts 8, 6, 5 respectively are made to co-operate by forcing the parts 6, 5 downwardly by a ram 17. When the nozzle 5 is in contact with a mould orifice 11 (Fig. 1, not shown) channels 12, 13 coincide and the sleeve 6 must then be depressed further to bring the three channels into alignment so that the plastic may be injected. After injection the ram 17 is retracted and the sleeve 6 is pushed up by a spring 19 to cut off the flow of plastic before the nozzle 5 breaks contact with the mould orifice 11. In another embodiment (Fig. 5) the nozzle 5 is displaced by pivoted levers 38 which are actuated by a fluid cylinder unit 44. In the injection position the material flows through a bore 29, a passage 50 in a slidable valve rod 49, a connecting port 31, and delivery passage 12 in nozzle 5. The rod 49 is operated by a fluid cylinder unit 52 so that, during injection, the passage 50 coincides with bore 29, and during non-injection an inclined passage 54 coincides with bore 29 so that the material is returned through a by-pass tube 47 to the base of the feed hopper. Moulds 10 for moulding footwear may be mounted on a rotary table 9.
