Continuous-discharge apparatus for milling and dispersing substances in liquid media comprises a bowl 8 mounted for rotation on a vertical axis and divided into superposed chambers 8a, 8b, 8c by perforated partitions 14, 15, 16, the perforations therein being of decreasing size for each successively higher partition, agitating means comprising discs 19a, 19b, 19c within each chamber and fixed to an inlet tube 18 extending into the lowermost chamber, and means such as a suction nozzle 25 for upwardly collecting the liquid media containing the milled and dispersed substances, after they have passed through the chambers, at the top of the bowl. As the mixture is treated, it describes figure-of-eight movements as indicated by arrows in the Figure. The nozzle 25 is mounted on a screwthreaded tube 24 so that rotation of a hand wheel 23 will vary the distance between the nozzle aperture and bowl side wall, thus controlling the rate of delivery of the mixture. Milling agents such as those described in Specification 995,027 may be placed in the chambers. Specification 963,954 also is referred to.
