994,168. Ring-spinning apparatus. DERCO A. G. May 14,1962 [May 15,1961],No.18433/62. Heading D1D. In ring-spinning apparatus having drive means for lowering the ring rail for doffing which is electrically switched on and off in the upper and lower positions of the rail, the drive means includes an electromagnetic clutch the elements of which are operatively connected respectively to the drafting-means and to a pulley &c. connected by a cable &c. to the ring rail. In Fig. 2, the ring- rail is raised during the traverse by rods 15 resting on rollers carried by interconnected bell cranks 70<SP>1</SP>,68<SP>1</SP>biased to rotate clockwise about pivots 68 by adjustable weights 73<SP>1</SP>.A quadrant 67 on one of the bell-cranks is connected by a cable 45 to a pulley 46, Fig. 4, which is connected to the output side of a clutch 32 of which the input element is connected by gears 30, 31 to the continuously-driven drafting-mechanism. As the ring-rail rises during the build, the clutch parts being operated, the quadrant, moving clockwise, pulls off the cable and rotates the pulley against the bias of a spring 61 through about one revolution. When the ring-rail reaches its uppermost position, it closes a timing-switch 72 which stops the rail and establishes a circuit, which includes a normally-closed microswitch 80, to energize the clutch and connect the pulley to the drafting mechanism. The cable is thus re-wound to lower the ring-rail, the timing-switch remaining closed long enough for the rail to reach its lowest position, when it reopens and the clutch parts are separated. At this point, a spring-pressed plunger 53 snaps into a recess in a disc 50 on the pulley-shaft to lock the rail in the doffing-position, a shoulder 84 on the plunger depressing a plunger 82 to open the microswitch 80. After doffing, the buildermechanism is reset, and the plunger 53 manually withdrawn, restoring the microswitch to closed position and allowing the rail to rise to starting position.
