Abstract

993,816. Control valves for extruders. STERLING EXTRUDER CORPORATION. July 22, 1963 [May 8, 1963], No. 28964/63. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A control valve for varying the back pressure at the discharge end of an extruder comprises a valve housing 1 and supported therein a valve body 9 having conical ends and a cylindrical bore in which a valve pin 23 is slidably mounted and connected through link 28 to a shaft 36 which slides in a lateral extension 31 of the housing. Actuation of the shaft moves the valve pin through the link 28 to adjust its position with respect to the valve opening. In operation material is extruded by screw 3 into the annular space in the valve housing surrounding the valve body and forced through the valve opening into a conduit 22 from which it passes to a die head 6 having an annular die orifice 7. Fluid under pressure may be supplied through member 8 for blow-moulding.
