Abstract
993,248. Hydraulic dampers. G. O. PETERS & CO. Ltd. Jan. 23, 1963 [Feb. 27, 1962], No. 7625/62. Heading F2S. In an hydraulic damper comprising a valved piston 1 in a cylinder 2 and in which differential volume is accounted for by a spring-loaded end wall 5, 6, changes in the viscosity of the hydraulic fluid, due to variations in temperature, are compensated for by forming the piston 1 and the cylinder 2, respectively, of materials such as aluminium and nickel-iron alloys which materials respectively have relatively high and low coefficients of thermal expansion so that the piston-cylinder clearance, forming the constriction, decreases as the temperature is increased.
