Abstract

A vitamin preparation, in the form of particles having at least a surface layer which is insoluble in water and gastric fluid U.S.P. but is soluble in intestinal fluid U.S.P., is prepared by forming particles comprising an oil-soluble vitamin, e.g. Vitamin A or an ester thereof or Vitamin K sodium bisulphite, gelatin or other gellable, denaturable polypeptide colloid and an edible plasticizer therefor, the ratio of the weight of the vitamin to the total total weight of material being from 0,1 to 1 to 0,55 to 1 and treating the particles with a denaturing agent for the said colloid and/or with heat to give at least the surface of the particles the above-specified properties. Specified denaturing agents are glyoxal, formaldehyde and dihydroxy acetone.
