Abstract

991,887. Tape measures. NATIONAL RESEARCH DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Sept. 28, 1961 [Sept. 29, 1960], No. 33393/60. Heading G1M. In a tape measure, two tapes 10, 11 having transverse curvature are carried by a common case 14 and arranged so as to be extensible from the case independent, of each other in opposite directions. The two tapes 10, 11 may be mounted side-by-side as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, or they may be mounted coaxially as in Fig. 3. A spring lock may be provided for each tape individually, or common to both. The scale of one tape may start where that of the other one ends so that they may be used in conjunction, the scales preferably being indicated by like colours. The device is mainly applicable to steel tapes.
