Abstract

Two or more twisted or untwisted multifilament yarns or tows (or composites thereof formed by intertwisting differently coloured threads) are joined together by securing against axial movement a portion or end of each of the yarns &c. in stationary overlapping relationship and directing a high velocity fluid yet e.g. of air, carbon dioxide, nitrogen or saturated or unsaturated steam, from a nozzle into a resonance chamber with the overlapping portions positioned therebetween. The jet impinges on these portions at right angles thereto while the filaments thereat are tensioned in an unconfined space and these filaments are thereby intermingled. The yarns &c. may be of regenerated cellulose (preferably moistened prior to being subjected to the action of the jet) cellulose acetate, polyamide, polyester, polyalkylene or polyacrylonitrile, and may have been stuffer-box crimped.
