990,989. Rotary toothbrushes. P. F. POIZAT. July 12, 1962 [July 20, 1961], No. 26922/62. Heading A4K. In order to drive a rotary tooth brush so as to brush the teeth downwardly from the gums towards the biting surfaces, a brush guard 12 is arranged to operate a drive reversing mechanism on contact with the gums. Sleeve 7 is turned about its longitudinal axis by pressing one edge of the guard 12 against the gums or by moving part 14 by hand. This action overcomes centring springs 18 and allows contact bars 10 to complete the circuit of motor 3 through contacts 4 and 4a. Various shapes of brush head 6 may be attached to shaft 5 which is itself disengageable from the motor housing, together with sleeve 7, by means of coupling 15.
