Abstract

990,959. Raising derrick masts. LEE C. MOORE CORPORATION. March 20, 1964, No. 11866/64. Heading B8B. An oil well derrick mast 7, Fig. 1, is raised by winding in a cable 11 which pulls a block 10 up the mast, the block 10 being attached to the top of a gin-pole 4 by a pair of slings 14, 15 which assist in the raising movement. The sling 14, Fig. 2, passes from a lug 27, Figs. 1, 2, on the mast, round a sheave 26 on an axle on top of the gin-pole, under a sheave 24 on the mast, round a travelling sheave 17 attached to the block 10 by a hook 20, and under a sheave 23 on the mast to a fixed point 25 on top of the gin-pole. The sling 15 is reeved in a similar manner. To lower the mast it is pulled over centre by an auxiliary line and steadied by the slings and cable 11.
