989,887. Tape measures. J. G. ROE. Feb. 2, 1962, No. 4071/62. Heading G1M. A tape measure unit comprises a flexible measuring tape 2, a plastics casing shell 6 a rotatable plastics cover plate 8 mating to form a casing 4 having a slot through which the tape extends, the cover plate 8 having a collar extending into the casing shell 6, means connecting the inner end of the tape to the collar, an annular hub 26 rigid with the collar, and stud means 32 extending through a wall of the shell 4, whereby the cover plate is rotatably mounted on the casing shell 4, the cover plate 8 having raised finger ledge means 42. Metal bearing parts may be provided on the hub 26 and shell 4.
