Abstract

989,574. Portable containers. METAL CONTAINERS Ltd. Feb. 24, 1964 [Feb. 26, 1963], No. 7634/63. Heading B8D. A container comprises a side wall 11 and a bottom 12 both of layers of fibrous material such as kraft liner board, the bottom being a sandwich of stronger outer layers 13 of material such as kraft liner board and a weaker inner layer 14 of material such as millboard or chipboard. All the layers of the bottom are initially of the same diameter greater than that of the side wall. The peripheral edge of the bottom and the adjacent marginal edge of the wall are interconnected by a fold seam 15 and an annular portion of the bottom adjacent to the wall is clasped between the seam and an internal rib 16. The container may have a metal reinforcing ring 17 around the fold seam 15. The external outer layer 13 of the bottom may be coated with a bitumen impregnated layer which may be laminated with the adjacent layer by means of a layer of bitumen.
