Abstract

989,347. Rotary feeding-valves. BLACK-CLAWSON CO. Aug. 25, 1961 [Aug. 26,1960], No. 30729/61. Heading B8A. In a rotary vane type valve for feeding fibrous material into high pressure digesters &c. the rotor 50, Fig. 2, has alternate shallow and deep pockets 47, 48 so that a high proportion of the rotor material is distributed radially outwardly to resist bending under pressure. The rotor 50 is also mounted with a slight eccentricity within the cylindrical opening 13 of the valve body to compensate for bending of the rotor 50. The roller bearings 72, Fig. 3, of the rotor 50 are eccentrically mounted within bolted end caps 80 in which rotatably adjustable eccentric sleeves 70 permit the direction of maximum eccentricity to be varied. The valve body 10 has a cylindrical wear liner 25 located in alternative positions by radial pins 35 engaged with openings 28 in the liner 25. The arrangement permits the liner to be rotated when worn so as to present new wearing surfaces. The unused pair of openings 28 in the liner 25 is arranged opposite steam vent ports 31, one of which may be plugged according to the direction of rotation of the rotor 50. Alternative steam inlets 56 are arranged at the outlet port 15 and co-operate with deflection plates 57 which direct the steam into the rotor pockets 47, 48 for scavenging material.
