Abstract
988,539. Anti-Skid Chains. A. SERENO, and C. CHIRONE. Feb. 5, 1962, No. 4277/62. Heading B7C. An anti-skid chain comprises a series' of chain sections each anchored at the inboard face of a wheel to a circular metal frame A which is in two halves hinged together at one end a<SP>0</SP> and releasably hooked together at the other end a, the chains extending transversely across the tyre tread and connected in pairs 1, 2, 3 at their free ends to arcuate strips 1‹, 2‹, 3‹ which each carry a buckle la, 2a, 3a respectively for co-operation with over-centre action snaphooks 4, 5, 6, hinged to the vertices of a closed polygonal metal frame B disposed on the outboard face of the wheel. The operability o the frame A permits attachment of the chain without jacking up the wheel, and the lever 4a, 5a or 6a of snap-hook has a series of notches, such as 5b, Fig. 7, for adjustable engagement with its associated buckle. Locking of the hooks is effected by a cable 12 which is passed through a hole 10a in a lug 10 upstanding from the hook base 13 to extend through a hole 11 in the lever (5a) when the latter is in its closed position.
