Abstract

988,449. Upholstery; seats; furniture frames. PARKER-KNOLL Ltd. Feb. 25, 1963 [March 1, 1962], No. 8043/62. Headings A4J, A4M and A4W. [Also in Division B5] Upholstered articles are provided with a layer of filling material 2 of foamed rubber or plastics provided on its curved surface with a plurality of permanent indentations 4 into which surplus parts of a cover 3 are gathered. The indentations 4 may be in the form of grooves or corrugations of varying depth and the cover 3 may be secured therein by adhesive or other means. For use on a preformed chair shell 1, e.g. of resin bonded fibreglass, the cover 3 may be secured to a preformed filling layer 2 using a mould or alternatively the chair shell 1 may form a part of a mould in which a foam forming material is injected between the cover 3 and the shell 1 thereby to form the pad integrally with the shell 1.
