Abstract
988,359. Transformers. LEAR SIEGLER Inc. May 11, 1961, No. 17214/61. Heading H1T. [Also in Division H2] A pulse generator (Fig. 2) for a static frequency changer (see Division H2) comprises a set of six saturable transformers 1<SP>1</SP>-6<SP>1</SP> for each half phase of the output supply. The transformers have toroidal cores of square loop material and each has four input windings, for example 50, 51, 52 and 53 and an output winding 54. The cores are saturated in one direction or the other except when the algebraic sum of the ampere turns in the input windings is substantially zero. An output is generated in an output winding only when the associated core switches from one direction of saturation to another. The windings 50 and 60 are connected in series between the phase voltage a<SP>11</SP>, n<SP>11</SP> and the windings 51 and 61 in series between the lines a<SP>1</SP>, c<SP>1</SP> such that the current in the windings 51 and 61 lags 120 degrees behind the current in phase I<SP>1</SP>, 90 degrees of the lag being due to the inductor 67a. The windings 53 and 63 are provided so that one group of rectifiers of the frequency changer do not fire when the other group are conducting and the windings 52 and 62 provide feedback to slightly advance the firing point in order to eliminate commutating overlap. A modified pulse generator (Fig. 6, not shown) has the input windings differently connected, for example the windings 50 and 60 are supplied from phases a<SP>11</SP>, b<SP>11</SP>, c<SP>11</SP> on cores 1 and 2, 3 and 4, 5 and 6 respectively, but operates in a similar manner to the generator described above.
