Abstract
The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0988300/C2/1> (wherein R represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl or alkenyl radical or an aralkyl radical, the aromatic nucleus of which may be substituted by a halogen atom or an alkyl radical, and R1 represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical) and salts thereof, and the preparation thereof by catalytic hydrogenation of a 3-phenyl-granatene-(2) of the formula <FORM:0988300/C2/2> or (for compounds in which R is other than hydrogen) by reaction of a compound of the Formula I in which R represents a hydrogen atom with a compound of the formula R1X, where R1 represents an alkyl, alkenyl or aralkyl radical and X represents a reactive ester group, or (for compounds wherein R carries a methylene group in the position adjacent to the nitrogen atom) by reaction of a compound of the Formula I, wherein R represents a hydrogen atom with an acyl halide of the formula R2COX, where R2 represents an alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl or aryl radical and reducing the so-produced N-acyl compound, or (for compounds wherein R represents a hydrogen atom) by catalytic hydrogenation of a compound of the Formula II, where R represents a benzyl group, at a slightly elevated temperature and pressure. 3 - Phenyl - granatene - (2) derivatives of the Formula II are prepared by the method described in Specification 983,628.
