Abstract
987,980. Voltage detectors. INTERNATIONALE PATENT-UND LIZENZ-ANSTALT. April 19, 1961 [April 19, 1960; May 3, 1960(2); May 17, 1960], No. 14126/61. Heading G1U. A voltage detector comprises a contact 4, Fig. 1, carried by an insulating tube 1, and series connected with a discharge tube indicator 8, two spark gaps connected one on each side of the indicator tube 8, and a reference potential member which may be another contact 4 carried by an insulating tube 2 and connected in the series circuit by a cable 5. Alternatively, the reference potential member may be an electrode 58, Fig. 7, within the tube 1 and adapted to be capacitatively coupled to earth via the handle 3 and the user. In this case a resistor 60 shrinks the two spark gaps and the tube 8 connected between them. The contacts 29, 30 of the respective spark gaps are fixed but their co-operating contacts 35, 36 are movable, being carried by an insulating block 39 movable axially, Fig. 3, through a screw 40 by rotating a sleeve 41, to adjust both spark gaps together for different test voltages as indicated at 42. 43. Contact with the tube 8 is maintained through spring-pressed contacts 37 and terminals 33, 34. the U shaped indicator tube 8 has a light reflecting metal coating or metal sheets 47 which together with the indicator tube are embedded in a transparent resin 46. High current limiting resistors housed in the insulating tubes 12, 49 are also connected in the series circuit. Specification 987,979 is referred to.
