Abstract

987,972. Gear-finishing. J. A. MILLS. April 25, 1961 [Feb. 3, 1960], No. 3782/60. Headings B3B and B3K. A gear finishing machine comprises a powerdriven cutter adjustable angularly above a knee 14 carrying a traversable slide 20, a table 15 on the slide which can be rocked to crown a gear or moved in an inclined path for tapering a gear, the rocking or inclining means comprising an angularly adjustable grooved member 49 on the slide engaged by a member 42 adjustable vertically on the knee. The gear-supporting table 15 carries a shaft 19 supported on rollers mounted in the slide 20 which is constrained by guide blocks 26 to move in a straight path, as described in Specification 943,478. The member 49 is angularly adjusted by a worm 54, and is engaged by a tongue 47 on the shaft 42 which is carried in an eccentric sleeve 41 which can be rotated by a manually-adjustable worm 45 to raise and lower the shaft, the adjustment being indicated on graduated dials. In a modification, the shaft 42 is adjusted vertically by means of a screw 57, Fig. 12. Specification 987,973 also is referred to.
