Abstract
987,946. Point heaters. H. LAWSON-TANCRED. March 23, 1964 [March 23, 1963], No. 11617/63. Heading E1G. In a railway point heater hot gas is blown on to the rail by a fan having an outlet close to the rail. An elongated trunk 1 extending close to and alongside the rail 2 is divided into an upper flow conduit 3 attached to the volute casing of a fan 5 and a lower return conduit 4 communicating with the suction chamber 6 of the fan. The air is heated by an electric heater 9 or gas heaters and is discharged against the rails through a plurality of outlets 7. The hot gas returns from the rail and is drawn into inlets 8 whence it recirculates through the fan. The inlets 8 and outlets 7 may be connected through hollow metal sleepers to the insides of the rails or to the point rails.
